Morgan Buckert
Morgan Buckert builds custom cowboy boots with bespoke patterns and traditional construction techniques in Hailey, Idaho. She is 7th generation of a Texan ranch family and the influence of cowboy culture is evident in all her work. Morgan has studied under several cowboy boot makers, including Seth Teichert of Idaho. As the 2023 Boot Making Fellow for Art of the Cowgirl, Lisa Sorrell, of Oklahoma, became her mentor. Morgan’s work has been supported by various grants and she serves on the Advisory Board of Cowgirl Artists of America, where she is a Signature Member and was the 2024 Member of the Year.
Morgan is a Nest Guild Member was awarded the Nest Heritage Craft Prize in 2024. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, NPR, and a variety of Western publications. Buckert says of her work, “I love boot making because it is a combination of math, creative expression, and brute force.” From decorative tops to soling and pegging, building boots combines creativity, math, skilled labor, and precision craftsmanship. Morgan builds cowboy boots employing traditional techniques such as welting and hand stitching and controls the medium through her hands, meaning each piece is unique, loved and sweat over, and built to last a lifetime.
