Matt Oppenheimer

Matt Oppenheimer is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Remitly, a trusted provider of digital financial services that transcend borders. Since founding the company in 2011, Matt has led with purpose and a customer-centric approach, working to transform lives through accessible, secure, and reliable financial services. Under his leadership, Remitly has grown to serve millions of customers, with a global footprint spanning more than 170 countries. Matt’s vision for Remitly is rooted in his early experiences living and working in Kenya, where he saw firsthand the essential role remittances play in supporting individuals around the world, and how broken the system was for those who depended on it most. Inspired by the opportunity to create a better way, Matt set out to reimagine the cross-border payments experience to deliver trust, peace of mind, and financial access for millions of people around the world.

Today, Remitly enables customers to send money across more than 5,100 corridors, supporting over $54 billion in send volume in 2024 alone. Its digitally native, cross-border payments app provides a fast, reliable, and transparent experience that earns customers’ trust every day. In addition to his role as CEO, Matt serves as chair of Remitly’s board of directors. He has been widely recognized for his leadership, including being named one of FinTech Magazine’s Top 100 Leaders in 2025 and ISEA’s Customer Service CEO of the Year in 2022. In 2020, he was honored as GeekWire’s Big Tech CEO of the Year and named a PSBJ Power 100 Honoree. Earlier accolades include PSBJ’s “40 Under 40” and EY Entrepreneur of the Year for the Pacific Northwest, both in 2014.

Matt has served on the board of directors for BECU since 2018, and was part of the 2021 class of Henry Crown Fellows. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Psychology from Dartmouth College.
