AI sovereignty: Challenges and choices

Will Southeast Asia’s AI story be written elsewhere, or authored at home? Across the region, leaders are harnessing talent, datasets and native-language expertise to develop AI solutions like ILMU, Malaysia’s own large language model. This session will examine how governments, the private sector and regional institutions are collaborating to ensure that AI serves, not supplants, local knowledge. How can ASEAN become a global leader in AI that is inclusive, trusted and locally grounded?
